Disclaimer

If you have a medical emergency or experience unusual symptoms after any change to your diet, exercise, or medication, stop and seek medical help right away. In the US, call 911. Nothing on this site is a substitute for that.

In plain language: I am not a doctor. This site tells you what I did, what I measured, and what the research says about why it worked. It does not tell you what to do. Your doctor does that.

Not medical advice

Everything on eat-move-heal.com, in my newsletter, and in my books, including Eat, Move, Heal, is for educational and informational purposes only. It shares my personal journey and research on improving metabolic health. It is not medical advice, nutrition advice, or a treatment plan, and it should not replace guidance from your doctor or healthcare team.

Reading this site, buying the book, or writing to me does not create a doctor–patient relationship or any other professional relationship.

Who is writing this

I am Michael Hofer. I have lived with Type 1 diabetes for more than 40 years, and I hold a Ph.D., an MBA, and a CPA. None of those are medical, nursing, dietetic, or other licensed health qualifications. I am not a physician, and I have no clinical training. When I describe what a food, habit, or device does, I am describing what I have read and what I have observed in myself, not offering a professional opinion.

My results are mine

The numbers I share, such as changes in my cholesterol, blood pressure, and A1C, are my own, measured with my own devices and labs over my own timeline. They are a record, not a promise. Everyone's health, history, genetics, and circumstances are different, and what worked for me may not work for you, may work differently, or may not be appropriate for you at all.

I do not claim that any approach described here will lower your numbers, reduce your medication, prevent or treat any disease, or produce any particular result.

Diabetes, blood pressure, and medication

This is the part I care about most. Changes to what you eat, how you move, how you sleep, and how much stress you carry can meaningfully change your blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol. If you take medication for any of these, those changes can also change how much medication you need.

  • If you have diabetes, the strategies described here can affect glucose levels and insulin requirements. Never adjust insulin or other diabetes medication on your own based on anything you read here.

  • If you take blood pressure or cholesterol medication, never reduce or stop it without your prescriber's direction, even if your numbers improve.

  • Make any change to diet, exercise, supplements, fasting, or medication only under medical supervision, and tell your doctor what you are doing so they can adjust your care.

The medication reductions I describe were made by my physicians, based on my labs, on their schedule. That is the only safe way to do it.

Devices, apps, and tracking

I write about continuous glucose monitors, sleep trackers, nutrition apps, and health dashboards because they helped me. I have no medical authority to prescribe or interpret them for you. Consumer devices can be inaccurate, and you should confirm readings with your healthcare team before making any decisions based on them. Mentioning a product is not a recommendation that it is right for you, and I am not affiliated with any device maker unless I say so explicitly.

Research and sources

I cite studies, traditional populations, and clinical trials because I want you to see the reasoning behind my choices. I read this research as an informed layperson, not as a scientist or clinician, and I may summarize, simplify, or misread it. Science changes, and what is well supported today may be revised tomorrow. Verify anything that matters to you with primary sources and with a professional who knows your situation.

I use my best efforts to keep this site accurate, but I make no representation or warranty about the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of anything here.

Links, products, and affiliates

This site links to retailers, other websites, and my other sites. I am not responsible for their content, accuracy, or practices. If applicable: Some links, including links to Amazon, are affiliate links. If you buy through them, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This never affects what I write or recommend.

Limitation of liability

By using this site, you accept that you do so at your own risk and that you are responsible for your own health decisions. To the fullest extent permitted by law, I disclaim all liability for any loss, injury, or damage, whether direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or otherwise, arising from your use of this site, the newsletter, or my books, or from any action you take or do not take based on their content. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

Changes

I may update this disclaimer as the site grows. The date at the top shows the latest revision. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated version.
