Privacy policy

The short version. This site collects your email address if you join the newsletter, whatever you choose to write if you contact me, and basic anonymous usage statistics. I do not sell your information, run advertising, or collect health data about you.

Who runs this site

eat-move-heal.com is operated by Michael Hofer, an individual author based in Colorado, United States ("I", "me"). I am the data controller for the personal information described in this policy. You can reach me via this contact form.

What we collect

Information you give me

  • Newsletter sign-up: your email address, the date you subscribed, and whether you confirmed your subscription.

  • Contact: your name, email address, and anything you include when you email me or use a contact form.

  • Purchases: books are sold through Amazon and other retailers. I do not receive your payment details, address, or order history from them.

Information collected automatically

  • Usage data: pages visited, referring site, approximate location (country or region), device and browser type, and time on page.

  • Server logs: my hosting provider records IP addresses and request details for security and troubleshooting.

  • Email engagement: if you subscribe, my email provider records whether you opened a newsletter and which links you clicked.

How we use it

I use this information to:

  • send you the newsletter you asked for, and stop sending it when you unsubscribe;

  • reply to your messages;

  • understand which content is useful so I can write more of it;

  • keep the site secure and working;

  • comply with legal obligations.

Where the GDPR or similar laws apply, my legal bases are your consent (newsletter), my legitimate interest in running and improving the site (analytics, security, replying to you), and legal obligation.

I do not use your information for advertising, and I do not sell it or share it with others for advertising.

Cookies and analytics

This site uses analytics and sometimes an analytics provider (e.g., Plausible / Google Analytics 4) to measure traffic.

The site may also set strictly necessary cookies needed for the newsletter form or to remember a preference you chose. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site will still work, though some features may not.

If you use a cookie consent banner for EU visitors, describe it here. If you use Google Analytics, say so and link to Google's opt-out.

Who we share it with

I do not sell your personal information. I share it only with service providers who help me run the site, and only as needed for that purpose:

  • Email newsletter: Provider, e.g., Kit / Mailchimp / Beehiiv stores subscriber addresses and sends the newsletter.

  • Hosting: Hosting provider hosts the site and its logs.

  • Analytics: Analytics provider, as described above.

  • Retailers: When you click a link to buy the book, you leave this site, and the retailer's privacy policy applies.

I may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of myself or others.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal information I hold about you, correct it, delete it, receive a copy of it, restrict or object to how I use it, and withdraw consent at any time. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that already took place.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have these rights under the GDPR and equivalent laws, and you may lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. Austrian residents can contact the Datenschutzbehörde.

If you are a Colorado, California, or other US state resident with a comprehensive privacy law, you have similar rights of access, correction, deletion, and portability. I do not sell personal data or use it for targeted advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of on that front.

To exercise any of these rights, contact me via this contact form. To unsubscribe from the newsletter, use the link at the bottom of any email. I will respond within the time the law requires, and I will not treat you differently for exercising your rights.

International transfers

This site is operated from the United States, and my service providers store data there. If you are outside the US, your information will be transferred to and processed in the US. Where required, my providers rely on standard contractual clauses or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework to protect that transfer.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS, and I choose providers with reasonable safeguards for the data they hold. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so I cannot guarantee absolute security. If I become aware of a breach affecting your personal information, I will notify you as required by law.

Children

This site is intended for adults. I do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16 (or under 13 in the US). If you believe a child has given me personal information, contact me, and I will delete it.

A note on health information

This site discusses health and metabolic topics, but I do not ask for, and do not want, your medical information. If you choose to share health details when you write to me, I will use them only to reply to you, will not add them to any list or database, and will delete them when the conversation ends. Please do not send test results or medical records.

Nothing on this site is medical advice. Consult your healthcare provider before making changes to your diet, exercise, or medication.

Changes to this policy

I may update this policy as the site or the law changes. The date at the top shows when it was last revised. For meaningful changes, I will mention it in the newsletter or post a notice on the site.
